Why we love colour…

Colour plays a very important part in our lives these articles are to give you insight into how important colour is and how you can add more colour in your day for a fun, healthy life. Understanding colour more in our day to day life also helps us to understand how the colours of Aura-Soma help us.

Colour and Food – Eat a rainbow everyday….

Eat your colours!

Its high summer and I am loving eating my rainbow everyday, with so much lovely fresh fruit and produce available at this time of the year from green and yellow courgettes, apricots, nectarines, watermelon, purple beans, tomatoes and all the greens we have so much choice in mid summer.

If you love Aura-Soma you most likely love colour and care about your well being…eating your colours is about eating a range of natural plant foods that are different colours. Nature cleverly puts different nutrients etc into different coloured plant, fruit and vegetables, so you can get all your body needs by eating a colourful diet. All year round you will find a variety of colours in season at the grocery store or better still in your garden, when planning your garden plant a rainbow of your favorite food.

Some good examples are

Orange foods such as carrots and sweet potato contain beta carotene which helps with strong bones a strong immune system and yes its good for you eyes – so eat your carrots to see in the dark.

Reds

Red foods such as Tomatoes, watermelon, beetroot, red peppers – are all high in phytonutrients lycopene andanthocyanin, which help build healthy cell walls, improving blood pressure, organ function, and circulation. Red foods also offer assist in supporting the skin from UV damage. Interesting they are all ready in the summer months.

Orange

Orange foods such as carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, oranges and some melons contain beta-carotene, which our bodies uses to make Vitamin A and antioxidants. These nutrients support our mucous membranes an important part of the immune system and aid in the prevention of cancer, heart disease, and infections. Beta-carotenealso helps maintain healthy eyes and skin.

Yellow

Yellow foods such as lemons, pineapples, yellow peppers are rich in Vitamin C, which helps reduce inflammation, prevent allergies, and maintain healthy skin, due to its’ ability to combat free radicals. Yellow foods also contain citrusbioflavanoids, which strengthens the collagen in your skin, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage.

Green foods such as kale, broccoli, lettuce, green beans get their colour from chlorophyll, chlorophyll is a natural blood purifier that supports the liver and kidneys in the elimination of toxins.

Purple foods such as purple cabbage, blueberries, purple beans raw, contain the most antioxidants of all the colors and therefore contribute to overall health, disease prevention, and longevity. They also raise HDL -the“good” cholesterol, and help maintain a healthy brain.

White foods such as garlic, onions, cauliflower and radish, have a wide range of beneficial nutrients, such as anthoxanthins, sulfur, and quercetin.These substances boost the immune system because they are anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory, which helps the body fight infections.

Enjoy a plate full or 2 of colourful fruit and veg each day will assist your body to be its best.
